Society and young people too, face numerous challenges today. According to the latest research, if young are young, it is likely that you are unemployed, without your own apartment with high rents, that you feel politically non-represented, and the internet is your main source of information. There are many reasons to be worried. But, there are a lot of reasons for celebration, too. It is fine to remember everything nice that the youth brings and celebrate the International Youth Day. There was a smart sentence in Spiderman: “With great power comes great responsibility”. So today, we get back to working chairs, we work, advocate and remember the responsibilities brought by our positions, and yesterday, we were celebrating – with colours.
Happy International Youth Day.
“We have joined the global topic which is transformation of knowledge. In the first part of the day, we were visited by youth organizations which showed their activities in an interactive manner and we finished the day with the culmination – Colour Festival. We believe that apart from the year-long work, trainings, workshops, the energy, creativity and differences of young people should be celebrated, and the colours, symbolically, include that”, Ivana Miloradov, OPENS PR says.
After the first colours had been fired from cannons, the party was on. 18 thousand bags of powder colours were in the hands of young people and served them for fun. Wet Dreams DJ trio was in charge of music background and they started their set around 5 p.m.
International Youth Day was first celebrated in 2000, and its purpose is to attract attention to problems, culture and legal matters of young people, pupils and students. The purpose of this event is to send the positive image about young people in Serbia to Europe.
“This is amazing! I love this concept and the reason for celebrating the Youth Day, although, I would celebrate it like this every day. Every day should by the Youth Day. These colours symbolize differences but on the other hand, we are all here together, because the colours are mixed”, nineteen-year-old Žarko Blagojević, a visitor says.
Non-governmental organizations which deal with the transformation of knowledge presented themselves to the visitors and practically showed them how they transform education on daily basis, which is actually the topic of this year’s International Youth Day.
“We are here to raise ecological awareness of young people. We brought some games to check if and how much they know about recycling. We have prepared a quiz for citizens where they showed amazing awareness about waste separation. It is important to talk about that today, because that is the only way to save our planet. All of us must join because these are small things that mean big changes”, Nada Bajac before the Čepom do osmeha organization says.
The party lasted until 11 p.m. and gathered more than four thousand young people who learned something about the International Youth Day and its meaning through all-night dancing.
