BIMUN plenum, within the 16th International Conference 2019 – “Belgrade International Model United Nations – BIMUN 2019”, whose purpose is for successful students and pupils of high-schools from Serbia and the world to meet the mechanisms of international cooperation and basic diplomatic principles of the United Nations, was held on Sunday at the Novi Sad Fair. This is the second time BIMUN is held in Novi Sad too, since that European Youth Capital Novi Sad 2019 is financing the part of the activities of the United Nations Association of Serbia, as part of its programme activities.
“We cooperate with them for the second year in a row and we will cooperate this year and the next year. We support their programme which leads Serbia to the top 37 countries of the United Nations, which have this programme and provide young people with the opportunity to transfer their experience and knowledge to global leaders”, Aleksandra Ilijin, OPENS Programme Coordinator stated.
The main goal of the BIMUN project is for successful students and pupils of high-schools from Serbia and abroad to meet the mechanisms of international cooperation and basic diplomatic principles in practice, and to understand the role of the UN in the contemporary world. “BIMUN 2019” was therefore the opportunity for diplomatic debates, respecting the multiculturalism and democratic values, as well as the connection of young leaders.
“BIMUN 2019 is the opportunity for diplomatic debates, respecting the multiculturalism and democratic values, as well as for the connection of young leaders”, Kondić said.
The participants, around 300 delegates from Serbia and around 30 countries of the world, were welcomed by the President of the Assembly of the City of Novi Sad, Zdravko Jelušić, saying that the BIMUN conference is the great opportunity for young people to show their interest in the future in which they would have to take responsibility and manage to make the world better than it is today.
“The United Nations is the institution formed with the main task for people from the whole planet to work on world peace and improvement. We cannot talk about international law, global security, economic development and social equalities, without mentioning the United Nations”, the President of the City Parliament said.
He also added that our city is the right place to organise conferences like this, because Novi Sad is the European Youth Capital 2019. The head of the office of the United Nations in Belgrade, Simona-Mirela Miculesku said that today’s gathering, dedicated to young people, is organised by young people.
“Here, young people are those who are ready to participate in their activities of achieving goals of the United Nations, future leaders are here. Young people are those who will help us fix the world, they are the ones who are most important for the future. The United Nations expect you to be the architects of the changes”, Simona-Mirela Miculesku stated.
The conference gathered more than 350 pupils of high-schools and students from Serbia and 33 countries of the world. As the delegates of the United Nations, they presented different countries and discussed the current world topics, in accordance with the UN procedure. BIMUN enables young people the opportunity to understand the current international questions and manners of their solving within UN in practice, to apply the basic diplomatic principles and contributes to the development of their personal skills. Therefore, young people take the roles of UN diplomates, they present different countries and discuss the current world topics, in accordance with the UN procedure.
