THE FIRST GREETING CARD FROM NOVI SAD, EUROPEAN YOUTH CAPITAL 2019

The City of Tirana (Albania) is the European Youth Capital for the year of 2022!

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France attended the official ceremony of the announcement in Amiens (European Youth Capital for the year of 2020) and invited all young people in Europe to take the measures to form the future and protect the values of freedom and democracy, adding that he was proud of its birth town Amiens, which is the holder of the title for the year of 2020.

Special guests were Frédéric Vidal, the Minister of Education, Science and Innovations of France, Gabriel Attal, the State Secretary for Young People and Brigitte Fouré, the Mayor of Amiens, who will come to Novi Sad on 13 December for the occasion of the Ceremony of the Handover of Keys to the City of Amiens.

“Only three years ago, the jury made the decision that the European Youth Capital for the year of 2019 is Novi Sad and that was the first time that the title was assigned to the city which had not been a member of the European Union. Just a few years later, in 2022, the title will once again return to the Western Balkans. This is an exquisite opportunity for young people and the city of Tirana and I truly believe that with their program and activities, they will manage to make the changes they want and that young people in Tirana are initiators of the positive changes”, Valentina Antić, OPENS International Cooperation Coordinator says.

Carina Autengruber, the President of the European Youth Forum congratulated Tirana when assigning the title. “You have expressed great devotion to the long-term establishment of legacy, which will put young people in the focus in their city.”

As European Youth Capital 2022, Tirana has an ambitious program whose purpose is to respond to the needs of their young people, defending informal education, and at the same time, striving to connect the city and its youth with European values.

As in November last year, when European Youth Capital for the year of 2021 had been announced in Novi Sad, the ceremony was held a day before the Assembly of the European Youth Forum, which gathers more than 150 young delegates who represent youth organizations from the entire Europe.
The winner, the City of Tirana, was selected among the five cities which were short-listed – Baia Mare (Romania), Kazan (Russia), Poznań (Poland) and Varaždin (Croatia).
